It only takes a moment to relax the body but feel strong too!
Sometimes we may not realise just how much tension we carry in our body. This can affect everything from our voice to our mental attitude and actually requires more energy. Simply saying to yourself “my shoulders are relaxed” can help, but if you have a moment to spare try this lovely relaxing position.
Find a hard back book and place it on the floor. Lie down and put the back of your head on the book. Bend you knees so that your feet are flat on the floor and the knees point up to the ceiling (or sky if you are in a sunny garden!) Place you arms by your sides, a small distance from your body with your palms facing up. Breathe out and each time you do so feel the body relaxing. Spend a lovely moment letting go, feeling the spine lengthen and the chest open out.
Before you are ready to stand up , say to yourself “my centre is strong” and it will be! Then slowly stand up and you are ready for the day!
Tip: Our muscles learn quicker than our brains, so the more you practice this, the easier having good posture will be!

The last time I delivered a Presentations course at UCL was a memorable occasion on two counts. Firstly, I got ‘Excellent’ feedback across the board from all delegates, and secondly, one of the participants was Mark O’Leary.
When he arrived I was amazed at how well Mark was walking on his prosthetic leg. The leg itself was extraordinary. He told me that he had had an operation to have the top inserted directly into his bone. Unusually it was replacing his skeleton and this gave him tremendous possibilities and more comfort. He then told me he was climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in the autumn with a group of other amputees to promote the charity Limbless Association. Impressive to say the least!
If you want to know more about Mark’s trek, take a look at his website. I look forward to hearing about his amazing adventures when he returns!

We’re very pleased to be invited to deliver some coaching at a development conference for a group of 180 ward sisters and associated staff working across Nottingham Hospitals. This will be an enjoyable, dynamic and interactive learning event – a practical masterclass exploring approaches to communication and understanding, managing and influencing others. We’ll examine in particular the challenges of working in highly pressurised environments and managing complex processes of change. Should be a great day – we’ll let you know how we get on.
